What is the difference between baking soda and baking powder?

Both baking soda and baking powder are leavening agents. Baking soda is pure sodium bicarbonate. You use baking soda when there are acidic ingredients in your recipe, such as yoghurt). Baking powder contains sodium bicarbonate. It also contains acid and base. You use baking powder together with other neutral tasting ingredient such as milk.
